My Story:
Hi, I’m Mary Hathaway, a licensed clinical social worker supporting preteens, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and life transitions. I also specialize in working with individuals during the perinatal period—a time that can bring up a wide range of emotions, identity shifts, and challenges that deserve care and attention. This includes pregnancy and postpartum, as well as infertility, perinatal loss, and adjustments to new parenthood.
My roots are in social work, where I’ve spent years working with individuals and families impacted by complex trauma. That background shapes how I show up in the therapy room—with compassion, curiosity, and an understanding of how our environments and lived experiences shape us.
How I Work:
My style is empathetic but direct. I believe in being real with my clients while creating a space where they feel safe, supported, and seen. I draw from a range of approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), narrative therapy, and somatic practices. Therapy with me blends reflection, education, and an exploration of both emotional and physical experiences. I also specialize in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), a highly effective, evidence-based therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related anxiety disorders. ERP is especially helpful for those who have not found anxiety relief through traditional talk therapy.
I incorporate psychoeducation into our work so you not only feel understood, but also empowered to understand yourself. My goal is to help you develop a deeper connection to your emotions, needs, boundaries, and desires so that you can move through the world with more clarity and self-trust.
While therapy can be hard work, I believe it doesn’t have to be all heavy. Growth can be honest and challenging, but still make room for moments of lightness, connection, and even laughter.
About Mary:
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy reading historical fiction novels (bonus if they include multiple generations of a family), cooking, spending time outdoors, and experiencing great journalism via a podcast. I love being with my husband, our energetic toddler, and my circle of friends.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the weight of difficult thoughts, feelings, emotions, or experiences, Mary Hathaway would love to come alongside you as a partner in your healing and growth and empower you to take on life’s challenges.
