Abby Carr
Pre-Licensed Associate Professional Counselor
Life often pulls us in countless directions, making it difficult to feel grounded and connected to ourselves. My goal is to create a space where clients feel safe, seen, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges. I believe that healing happens when we give ourselves permission to explore emotions, embrace creativity, and honor our unique experiences. Together, we work toward growth, resilience, and finding a sense of balance and belonging.
My Story:
Hello! I’m Abby and I am a Pre-Licensed Associate Professional Counselor and National Board-Certified Counselor. Over the years of mentoring elementary, middle, and high school students, I’ve seen firsthand the unique struggles young people face as they develop their identity and find their place in the world. I was drawn to the field of counseling when I was working as a substitute teacher and saw a need for students that went beyond what could be done in a classroom setting. I saw many students dealing with big emotions and life-changing circumstances who needed a safe space to process their emotions and develop healthy habits. It brings me joy to offer support and education around emotions to individuals, and to ensure them that they are not carrying their burdens alone.
How I Work:
I believe that every client is the expert of their own life, and my role is to walk alongside them, offering tools and support to help them reach their goals. Whether it’s coping with unexpected changes, navigating family dynamics, managing depression or anxiety, or building self-esteem, I am committed to walking alongside clients in their journey. I strive to help them develop healthy habits, build effective coping strategies, and foster a strong sense of identity and belonging. I am a strong advocate for the importance of “feeling your feelings.” I help clients identify and name their emotions, understand the message those emotions might be communicating, and develop effective strategies to cope with them in everyday life. I also enjoy incorporating games, creative activities, and topics that resonate with clients to make sessions engaging and meaningful. My approach often involves art, playful activities, and outdoor spaces, which can spark creativity, foster connection, and provide a hands-on way for clients to practice and apply the skills they learn in therapy to their daily lives.
About Abby:
In my free time, I love practicing yoga, going on walks outside, sitting by any body of water, reading, and starting new art projects. I enjoy spending time around my friends and family as much as I can. I find that I feel whole when I am surrounded by people who love and support me. On the weekends, I love to try new restaurants, attend concerts, or pick up a new hobby. I love to bring creativity into the counseling room with clients, gaining insight into their passions and integrating them as best I can; whether it be painting, drawing, writing, or any other creative outlet, it brings me joy to create beautiful things with others. Recently, I’ve been practicing mindfulness and have a goal to be present with myself and others in a world that is constantly trying to pull our attention into the future or keep it stuck in the past.
